The Salinity project will be conducted over 2 acres to evaluate the ability of three treatments of forage crops to establish in salt-affected soils. Once established, this project will be monitored over a period from five to ten years. Specific areas of focus include the productivity (i.e. above ground biomass) and economics of each treatment. Further, an investigation of the treatment’s ability to impact soil conditions over time (e.g. electrical conductivity, soil organic matter, and nutrient properties) will be done. Industry partners on this project include Nutrien Ag Solutions, Proven Seed and Ducks Unlimited Canada.
